Life dealt me a bad hand.
Okay, not really. It was WORDS with FRIENDS that dealt me the bad hand. (For those who don’t play, WORDS is a game of Scrabble that you can play against your friends either on the computer or on your phone.) Right now, I’m in a heated battle with a number of worthy opponents. It’s a lot of fun, and a nice way to de-stress. But did you know WORDS can teach you a little about life?
Well, neither did I. Until a few days ago when I opened up a game and looked at my seven tiles.
E E E E V L S
Yep, four Es. I stared at the letters a while feeling sorry for myself. (Four E’s? Really?) But then I realize that WORDS has a magic button. It’s called “SHUFFLE.” When you hit shuffle, the tiles shift around. They don’t change–you still got what you got. But suddenly, things can look a lot different.
S L E E V E
Yeah, it’s just a game but for me it was also an “Ah ha!” moment. We have a SHUFFLE button available to us in life–why don’t we take advantage of that and use it? I’m not saying you can change the hand that’s been dealt to you–because you can’t do that magically. But– you can change how you see things. You can focus on things differently, discover options you didn’t know existed.
It’s all how you look at things. So, if you don’t like how things are going for you right now then stop a minute and hit SHUFFLE. Let me know if that works for you!

Thanks for this. It’s something I try to remember, and am constantly reminding my children of. Our focus and perception can radically change how we play the hand we are dealt, and thus how we live the life we’ve got.
Always good to be reminded of by, and always refreshing to see someone else get it!
Looking forward to your next book!
Thanks for the comment–and for understanding!!
