Author Visits

Ready to inspire your students?  Amy loves to visit schools, libraries and conferences. She’ll sneak in lots of writerly wisdom and tips in a presentation that’s fun and motivational.  Do you have a particular topic you’d like Amy to discuss that fits in with your program?  Just ask.  Or choose from one of these below.

“Recently, our school had the privilege of welcoming author Amy Fellner Dominy to our elementary campus.  Her presentation was not only engaging, but educational as well.  Students were able to expand their knowledge about the writing process and learn about exciting writing careers.  Mrs. Dominy was able to make writing fun and exciting!  I would highly recommend her visits and hope to have her back again next year!”  – Mrs. Mayberry, Resource Center Specialist, Field Elementary

EMBRACING REVISION–NO IT WON’T KILL YOU
Oftentimes, kids look at revisions as a sign of failure.  After Amy’s visit, they’ll have a whole new perspective–and an understanding that revisions are just part of the writing process.   Amy will share the revision process an author goes through as well as leave kids with tips for handling edits on their own projects.

“100 Payne Junior High students were intrigued when Amy visited in February 2012.  Right off the bat Amy told stories from her teenage life which were as current as the lives of teenagers today. Students were actively involved in acting out passages from her book, OyMG and listening to the process of having a book published.  Amy is an energetic presenter, and allows plenty of time for all those “junior high” questions!” —Stephanie Merrill, Librarian, Payne Junior High

DIALOGUE–HOW TO WRITE THE WAY YOU SPEAK. ONLY BETTER
For this one, Amy pulls out her experience as a playwright to teach kids the basics of writing good dialogue.  Using Reader’s Theater scripts, they’ll experiment with bad dialogue and discover they know more than they realize about writing good dialogue. A fun, interactive program!

“Amy Dominy’s presentation was interesting and engaging.  The students really enjoyed her author visit; they could have asked questions for hours!  Students learned where Amy comes up with her ideas, characters, settings, and what its like to get published.  It was a great lesson for the students where they learned a lot and also had fun!” – Stephanie Angelakis, Akimel A-al Middle School

THE LIFE OF AN AUTHOR
This is the perfect presentation for career day events, book clubs or students interested in writing.  Amy will share the reality of a writer’s life (what, you mean it’s not glamorous?) and leave kids with an inspirational message of what can be accomplished through belief and perseverance.
