For me, one of the best parts of being an author is getting to interact with readers, writers, teachers and librarians.  That’s why I love to do all kinds of events from School Visits to Book Festivals to Library Conferences. Scroll below for School Visit Programs as well as a list of Upcoming Events.

I love to inspire kids through my own journey of failure and persistence (I got my first rejection letter when I was thirteen!) and to empower them to value their own stories and their unique voices. My presentations are always interactive with lots of Q & A and I’m happy to engage kids through activities or writing exercises, depending on the size of the group and the needs of the teachers/librarians.
Choose from one of the visits listed here or let’s talk about tailoring something special.

Amy’s presentation was fantastic from start to finish- she is engaging, relevant, witty, and meaningful. I know I loved her insight on the revision aspect of the writing process, but more importantly, my students loved it as well. After the presentation, students commented how much they appreciated her wisdom on a topic they are very much familiar with, but often feel in the dark about.

Part education, part motivation and 100% entertaining, I share my 30-year path to becoming an author. (I was an overnight success…it just took about 10,950 nights.) 🙂 I’ll talk about ideas and how to start with a “what if” and turn it into a story. Using examples from my rough drafts, I’ll share the importance of revision and the process of getting published. And I’ll leave plenty of time for Q & A so each presentation truly reflects the interests of your group.
50 minutes; Powerpoint; single class or large group

“Recently, our school had the privilege of welcoming author Amy Fellner Dominy to our elementary campus.  Her presentation was not only engaging, but educational as well.  I would highly recommend her visits and hope to have her back again next year!”
—Mrs. Mayberry, Resource Center Specialist, Field Elementary

Get ready for lots of laughs as well as some food for thought!  I start with a short presentation about my path to becoming an author and the importance of persistence. We’ll talk about ideas and I’ll share Cookiesaurus Rex with the class. From there, we can take this presentation in two directions:
1. Story Creation Exercise: Using a Story Stew exercise, I’ll involve the kids in creating stories of our own using Setting, Character, and Problem.
2. Learning about Collaboration: The Cookiesaurus books are co-written with Nate Evans. This provides the perfect opportunity to talk to the kids about sharing ideas, respect and teamwork.
And… a possible BONUS!
Two Authors Instead of One: Nate and I do joint visits whenever possible. Check with me and we can talk about how to schedule a joint visit.
30-40 minutes; Powerpoint; single classes or larger groups

“Amy is a fantastic writing mentor for kids! Her visits are funny, engaging, and definitely informative. My students couldn’t stop talking about it days later! If you’re thinking about bringing her to your school campus, you will not regret it! A combination of hands-on guided writing activities and a question and answer session makes her visits aligned to the common core and tremendously educational.”
—Sheila Rowe, Coyote Ridge Elementary

I love teaching craft workshops and I’m happy to work with teacher’s on a topic that fits in with the curriculum. I bring a unique background and experience to my writing workshops because along with being the author of seven books, I’m also a playwright. I use tips and tricks I learned writing for the stage, including Reader’s Theater and writing exercises. Choose from your favorite topic: Dialogue, Character Development, or Creating Dramatic Story Ideas (Character, Goal, Conflict, Consequence.)
45-60 minutes

“Amy Dominy’s presentation was interesting and engaging.  The students really enjoyed her author visit; they could have asked questions for hours!”
—Stephanie Angelakis, Akimel A-al Middle School

Have Skype, will travel! 🙂 I’m happy to offer a free Skype visit to your classroom/book club/reading group.  All I ask is that you have at least one classroom copy of my book and that the students are prepared in advance. Skype visits will be 30 minutes with the bulk of time for Q & A.

I’m scheduling visits now for the fall and next spring. Click on the contacts page and start the discussion. I’m happy to work with you on dates, times, and prices.
