MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL THE WRITING PROCESS & HOW IDEAS BECOME BOOKS Part education, part motivation and 100% entertaining, Amy will share her 30-year path to becoming an author. (She still has her first rejection letter from age 13!) She’ll talk about ideas and how to start with a “what if” and turn it into a story. Using actual examples from her own rough drafts, she’ll share the importance of revision and the process of getting published. Amy will start with a short presentation of her path to becoming an author. She’ll talk about ideas and use that as a springboard into a Story Stew exercise. The first book featuring this little cookie with a big attitude debuts September 26th. In honor of the new book, Amy is offering FREE visits during the 2017-2018 school year. (Travel expenses may apply.) Amy will share the story, answer questions and help kids decorate their own cookies (on paper!) if time and resources allow. 30 minutes; small groups preferred WRITING WORKSHOPS SMALL GROUP WORKSHOPS: DIALOGUE, CHARACTER, STORY PROBLEM Amy pulls out her unique experience as a playwright and novelist to teach kids the basics they need to know in a way that’s easy for them understand and put into practice. Students will be lead through activities including Reader’s Theater and writing exercises. A fun, interactive program! Choose from your favorite topic: Dialogue, Character Development, or Creating Dramatic Story Ideas (Character, Goal, Conflict, Consequence.) 45-60 minutes “Amy Dominy’s presentation was interesting and engaging. All she asks is that the class, school or organization have her book(s) available. Skype visits will be 30 minutes, with lots of time dedicated to Q & A which is why students should be prepared in advance with questions.
