Welcome to the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Hi! I’m Amy Fellner Dominy and welcome to the most awesome RED team.

In case you’re new to all of this—WELCOME! You’re going to be so glad you discovered YASH. 🙂 This event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to discover exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! On this hunt, you’ll get access to exclusive content from each author, and you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for the grand prize–one lucky winner will receive one ebook from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online until Sunday!

Below you’ll find everything you need to know, along with some very cool bonus material from an author I’m about to introduce you to. But first, for those of you new to my site:

I’m a cat person, but we have a dog. This is Finn when he was a puppy.
(He’s 3 now but he still thinks he can get away with anything.)

I write contemporary YA and YA romance. The two most recent are companion novels. (You can win BOTH!)

How to Quit Your Crush is up for grabs through the Hunt. (PLUS–I’m giving away copies of Announcing Trouble in a separate giveaway here–more soon.)  Somewhere on this blog hop, I’ve shared a deleted scene from How to Quit Your Crush that I think will make you laugh and sigh and press the computer to your heart. But do it gently or that could hurt. 😉

In addition to all the books you can win on the HUNT, I’m giving away

(the companion book to How to Quit Your Crush)

As a winner, you get YOUR CHOICE:

e-BOOK or Audiobook

More about the giveaway below along with the links!

So let’s get started: You are currently hunting on TEAM RED.

DIRECTIONS: Below, you’ll notice that I’ve listed my favorite number (in red!) Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on TEAM RED, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator.)

ENTRY FORM: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

RULES: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 16 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by Sunday, October 4, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

There are THREE contests going on simultaneously and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM but there is also a BLUE TEAM and PURPLE TEAM! Check out each team for a chance to win different sets of books!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to learn more about the hunt, including links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs.

Now that all the technical stuff is out of the way, I’m so excited to introduce you to the author I’m hosting on this hunt:

Lyssa Chiavari

About Lyssa:

Lyssa Chiavari is an author of speculative fiction for young adults, including Fourth World, the first book in a sci-fi trilogy set on Mars, and Cheerleaders from Planet X, a tongue-in-cheek send-up of all things sci-fi. Her short fiction has appeared in Wings of Renewal: A Solarpunk Dragon Anthology, Brave New Girls: Tales of Heroines Who Hack, Magic at Midnight: A YA Fairytale Anthology and Perchance to Dream: Classic Tales from the Bard’s World in New Skins. Her first published story, “The Choice,” was named one of Ama-gi Magazine’s Best of 2014. Lyssa lives with her family and way too many animals in the woods of Northwest Oregon.

The book Lyssa is showcasing is

About the Book:

Aliens are among us. And humanity’s only hope just happens to carry pom-poms.

Laura Clark thought she was just your average college freshman—until the day she saw a cheerleader on a skateboard get into a superhuman brawl with a lightning-wielding stranger in a trenchcoat. And the weirdest thing of all? Nobody else saw it happen. Nobody, that is, except the beautiful but standoffish Shailene, one of the mysterious (and possibly super-powered) cheerleaders from Laura’s rival school, Bayview University.

When girls start disappearing all over the City, Laura suddenly realizes that she may have seen more than she should. And if she wants to keep from disappearing herself, she needs to find some answers. But though Laura can’t shake the feeling that they’re somehow connected, Shailene is more than a little reluctant to share her secrets. With strange, bug-like creatures and a sinister man in a dark coat stalking her every step, Laura will have to uncover the truth fast if she wants to survive.

The fate of the planet just might hang in the balance.

Cover and blurb reveal for the sequel:

Things haven’t exactly been normal for Laura Clark since she found out she’s alien royalty. As if learning to control her newfound superpowers wasn’t hard enough, now the Anesidoran Empress has chosen Laura as her heir. She wants Laura to return with her to Nibiru and reclaim the fabled Galaxy Sword, an ancient relic that’s said to grant the bearer the power to heal or destroy.

The only problem is, Laura isn’t interested in being the heir to the Anesidoran throne. And she certainly never wanted to get mixed up in the war between Earth and Planet X. She just wants to get through finals week in one piece, take her girlfriend, Shailene, to Gam Lam formal, and enjoy the last summer of her teens. Interplanetary diplomacy is seriously out of her league.

But she may not have a choice. Because someone else is looking for the Galaxy Sword—and if they find it first, it could spell the end of everyone and everything Laura holds dear…

“I kiss him. I press my lips hard against his so nothing can get between us. Not even the future.” –Josie, ANNOUNCING TROUBLE

About the Book:

I may know everything there is to know about baseball, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Or like him. Garrett Reeves: sidelined player and the embodiment of everything I’ve learned to hate about baseball. He’s gorgeous, he’s cocky, he’s laser-focused on getting back in the game, no matter the cost.
When he convinces me to call games alongside him, our chemistry heats up the booth. We’re good together, whether I want to admit it or not. I’m finding that I like baseball again, but even worse, I’m liking Garrett. A lot.
But when he has to decide between our future and a new shot at his dreams, I know baseball will win out every time.

  28. J Lenni Dorner~ Co-host of the #AtoZchallenge, Debut Author Interviewer, Reference& Speculative Fiction Author My most important quality in a book boyfriend? Well, umm, didn't see this question coming. Hmm... Respects consent. I don't even want to read about "boyfriends" (or girlfriends or whatever relationship people) that mess with consent. Unless it's horror and they're gonna die violently. Thank you for taking part in YASH. I wish this weren't the last one. You Beneath Your Skin By Damyanti Biswas has been the best book I've read in 2020 so far. I also really enjoyed Van Helsing Academy by Stacey O'Neale and Not Guilty by C. Lee McKenzie. I'm super excited about the YA query contest Pass or Pages at Operation Awesome this October.
